Happy 2014 from Room 206! It’s hard to believe the first half of the school year went by so quickly and that we are already into the second trimester. The beginning of the school year brought many exciting field trips, events, and lessons.
We greatly enjoyed our trips to The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury and Indian Rock in Bristol. We are looking forward to a visit from Mrs. Nauheimer from Immigration Nation soon! We also had a blast at the Science Center in December. From experiencing hurricane force winds to testing our mental and physical strength, it was an unforgettable trip.
In November we walked the annual McCormick Mile and enjoyed a healthy snack in memory of Joanne McCormick. Also, right before winter vacation we were able to enjoy performances from our own talented chorus and band members. They all did an excellent job!
We tackled long division and multi-digit multiplication in math and finished our read aloud, Drita My Homegirl, which was a class favorite. We explored human rights in social studies and practiced expository writing throughout the first months of the school year.
We are now excited to be starting a measurement unit in math and are looking forward to starting our colonial unit in social studies.
Stay warm and check back for more 5th grade updates!
