As the year winds down, the activities in Room 206 are just picking up. We are still excited from our trip to New York earlier in the month where we got to tour Ellis Island and climb to the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. It was a wonderful day that we will never forget. Band and chorus students are also still telling stories of their Music in the Parks performance and their day at Six Flags. As if these trips were not fun enough, we have two field trips still to come: one to the Noah Webster House and the other to White Memorial. We are also greatly looking forward to Field Day on June 12th.
Through all of this excitement, we are also focusing on end of the year assessments and wrapping up units in social studies, math, and language arts. We just finished the Thirteen Colonies in social studies and students are writing about whether they would like to live in the New England, Middle, or Southern Colonies. (Despite us all living in New England currently, the Middle Colonies are the most popular choice for colonial era living.) In math, we will be starting one of our last units on PEMDAS and order of operations this week. In reading, we are really enjoying our read aloud book, The Tiger Rising, and will be finishing it in the next four weeks. It is going to be a very busy, but fun, final 19 days in fifth grade!
